Giving a second life at waste

The project of the Master’s thesis, developed together with three other colleagues, arises from the need to recover and valorize industrial production waste in the confectionery sector, more precisely the companies that work with Piedmontese chocolate. In their case, the largest number of waste produced are the shells of hazelnuts and those of cocoa beans. For this experimental project we had the honor of being able to collaborate with the Turin company Guido Gobino.

After identifying the type and quantity of waste, we developed and tested biomaterial solutions for disposable consumption. In addition to the design of the new material and its use, communication and interface for companies were developed in order to create an exchange network from their waste to the bio-product for consumption. Finally, the results of the impacts and costs of the project were detected in order to verify its feasibility.
